How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on We Found Land starts with one question: will this wagon roll well where you plan to use it? Sand, grass, gravel and pavement each favor a different wagon.

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with where you'll pull it

We think about the ground first, then the load. A trip to the beach, a weekend of ballgames and a weekly grocery run call for different wheels, sizes and handles.

When your trips narrow the choice, we say what to look for before we name any wagon.

2. We compare specs and features

We look at wheel type and width, frame material, the maker's weight limit, cargo volume, bed length and how small the wagon folds. We also check for brakes, a tailgate, a push handle, cup holders and a cover.

Makers describe their wagons in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note the warranty terms the maker lists.

3. We read buyer feedback

We look for patterns in what owners report, like wheels that crack, fabric that tears at the seams, frames that bend or handles that wobble.

One bad review doesn't sink a wagon. A pattern does.

4. We score each wagon

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A wagon that suits soft sand may score lower in a guide about tight car trunks.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages current

Wagons change, colors come and go and some listings disappear. Similar wagons are often sold under close names, so we check the model, the wheel type and the capacity, and we only link new units.

We skip any wagon with a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are research, not lab tests. We don't claim to have pulled every wagon we cover.

Weight limits on our pages are the maker's figures. Stay under them, and follow the maker's manual for folding, brakes and loading.
